Artist description
noPez is a hardcore punkrock band from Islip, NY. There blend of old school hardcore and new school punkrock makes them an original band that no one can fuck with. With an amazing live show with tricks varying from shooting stuffed animals, free cake when there is no merch, someone getting naked, everyone getting naked, toilet paper, silly string, balloons full of whipped cream (or chocolate pudding if you are lucky), and just over idiocy. The stench of pure stupidity in the air (or maybe mikey didn't wash his clothes again) seems to make the kids go simply put, insane. |

Press Reviews
GTJ Show Review - January 8th, 2000 Temple Sinai - January 8 2000 Dorx, NoPez, Wag, Simon Has No Pants Even though we only live a few towns away from the Temple we got super lost and ended up missing half of the first band's set…we weren't that upset! This show was kind of weird. We had to sign this weird contract type thing before we went in promising that we wouldn't drink, smoke, get high or engage in sexual activity anywhere on the Temple grounds…ok understandable because it's considered sacred to someone but did we really have to put it in writing? ANYWAYS…the security was as tight as a whale's arse! It was ok because no one was really moving. Ok…I'll shut up and talk about music now. So we show up in the middle of the first band's set. The band was called Dorx. Ok…um…there's no other way to say it without expressing not myself fully so I'll say it, THEY SUCKED! At first we were like, "Ok, the sound system must be screwed up." But as we listened more and more we just realized that the guitar riffs were clumsy as well as the vocals. Their singer was not articulate and it seemed like their bass player couldn't keep up with the rest of the band. You would think that this couldn't be anymore unenjoyable, right? Well, you're wrong they did the most trite, beaten-to -death cover of Blink 182's 'Dammit'. I think my ear's bled. Dorx, please practice!Next up was NoPez. They were part of the reason we went to the show. There was some difficulty with the bass levels at first but once they got it straightened out (after the second song) it was smooth sailin! Their songs had a good message and smooth transitions. They closed up their set by taking requests from the audience. They played Bouncing Souls' covers as well as a decent cover of Op Ivy's 'Knowledge'…this is a surefire way to get on my good side!Next up was Wag. To me they sounded like an emo-esque blend of Weezer and new skool (is their such a thing?) Queers. They had a pretty consistent sound but after a while it all got repetitive. I had a hard time deciphering a song from the one that was played before it. But all and all, I really can't say I didn't enjoy it. Last up was Simon Has No Pants. I hadn't seen these guys in ages! They played new songs as well as their classics like 'Paperbag', which ended up as a sing-a-long. And for the first time that nite people were moving! A HUGE circle pit formed and people were getting into the set. There was just so much energy in that room that the security had to tell them to knock it off. By the way, they played this awesome rockabilly song and I don't know the title but I LOVED it! You can catch Simon Has No Pants on the 2000 Warped Tour so be sure to get your arse to Randall's Island and support Long Island bands |
