Press Reviews
The LA Weekly says...Rave at The DragonflySometimes, when Cassy Phoenix and Rave start to gain mo-mentum with their thespian opera-rock, you get the faint im-pression that you're bearing witness to a whitewashed ver-sion of The Rocky Horror Picture Show or, in a farther--fetched observation, a female Ziggy Stardust. Rave's re-hearsals consist of more than just perfecting their histrionic music, which is a rhapsodic dance/trance ritual seasoned with sophisticated carnival-funk and your occasional blood-curdling aria, but also some arcane spoken-word interludes and coital gesturing. At one point in each dynamic show, Phoenix is draped in a white veil by her astral support (including guitarist Bearie Bambino, a part-time, real-life doctor and full-time vaudevillian) as her silhouette hunches over the key-boards singing "Centerfold," a song that has Tourette's writ-ten all over it yet somehow epitomizes the band. These are times for bath beads, incense, neon and heavy mascara! (Chuckie Mindenhall) |
