Artist History
[start in poor english]andy.c started 1997 with some crazy ideas to make some very strange sounds.after some very exciting months I founded 'phase4'. a project who made minimalmainstream techno. but this kind of sound I hate after one year. 1999 i founded 'b.y.t.e:vomit'. with 'b:v' I made some more strange sounds. more industrialnoise, but this kind of music I hate also after a while. so I started y2k the new project'subton' - here - under this project I can produce any kind of music and sound I like. Now I produce sound like NOSIE, MINIMAL, EXPERIMENTAL, ELECTRONICA and so on ...[end of poor english] |

Press Reviews
The german label "Badbeatz", dedicated to electronic music, noise, industrialsounds and all kinds of interesting musical experiments, has just released avery limited compilation CD-R, titled "Mono", that presents six young artistsfrom England, Canada and Germany and their music and sounds. The compilation starts off with LDT, a DJ-collective from England, who begintheir track with some weird plunderphonic stuff that evolves intoa greatdroning sound before it finishes with plundered musical snippets again. Wow!Definitely a project you should keep in mind...Next track is by "Four flies on grey velvet" from Canada, which offers somegreat noisy tape-manipulations, which actually sound like collected guitarfeedback madness. Well done!"VitalDigital" from Germany prefer to work with minimal rhythms and sounds. This could be called "Minimal Techno" - and ifyou want you can dance to it!That can't be saidfrom the short piece by "F.E." from Germany, which startsoff with some hectic keyboard chords, only to make you realize that the personbehind "F.E." is trying to attack your ears with some high frequencies, comingup after one minute and getting louder and more intense with every second. Probably thispiece makes you get up andrun to your CD-player to stop the high frequencies...pure audio-terrorism!"Hyperdriver",from England again, prefer pure guitar noise - no brutal free-jazz-punk-style guitar noise likeso many others - they prefer to make their tracksound more like a fuzzy and deranged year 2000 blues...Finally Germany's "Subton" - a stillneglected talent - offers an excellentpiece of dark and minimal electronic, which makes you wantto listen to more"Subton" stuff. Then - you thinkthat the CD-R has already been finished - suddenly after a fewminutes of silence, some strange sounds appear out of your loudspeakers(or your headphones). First you aren't sure, if this comes from outside or ifit's on the CD-R, but soon you'll notice that this is a "hidden track" - nearlytwenty minutes of manipulated field-recordings, titled "Geräusche der Umwelt"("Environmental Sounds"). These are approx. twenty minutes of strange sounds, whichmake it a really interesting listening experience. In total this is a well-done CD-R compilation you should invest in, as you'll notonly get some interesting new acts you can discover, but you'll also help theseacts as well as the label to reach a wider audience in obtaining this CD-R.The CD-R is limited to just 77 numbered copies and it comes in a very specialhandmade sleeve. So what are you waiting for? Get your copy soon, before allof the copies are gone...review: Jo Rets, April 2000 |
