Artist description Born in Bonn, Germany in 1770, LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN was to become definitive simultaneously of the most acute Classical compositional rigor and of an emerging Romantic style not content with the confines of traditional forms. In his early years, soon after his move to Vienna in 1792, Beethoven met with enormous success as a pianist, which was to succumb completely to his famous deafness by 1815, a year that marked a turning point toward his late style that was to continue to his death in 1827. This site celebrates the composer by performances from noted Beethoven interpreters.
