Artist History
Confucian a.k.a Billy Cain (William McCain) was born in Brooklyn, New York. He lived in the Fort Green Section of Brooklyn for 11 years. At the age of 11, his family moved uptown. Currently, he resides with his mother, brothers, and sister in Harlem, New York City. He has lived in Harlem for the last 11 years. These years are critical to the lyrics that he writes. "Throughout my years uptown", he says, "I have seen a lot of things happen around me." With the death of his older brother, at the age of 19, in 1992, Confucian's life was transformed. He says, "I have seen many friends go for stupid reasons. Throughout all the tragedies I have seen and faced, I realized that life was too short and that I must try to make the best of myself." Thus, McCain went on to finish high school and graduate from Martin Luther King Jr. H.S. |

McCain began to lyrically illustrate what he sees happening around him in 1991 and took on the name Confucian a.k.a. Billy Cain. He has hence developed his delivery to an elevated, energetic, and dynamited exertion of hip hop artistry. He has performed in numerous venues in New York City, including high school talent shows, hip hop showcases, and night clubs. He has also been featured on Manhattan Neighborhood Network programs on Manhattan Neighborhood Network Public Access Television. His music has been heard on various college and underground radio shows throughout the tri-state region. His sound has also been heard on a promotional song for Red Alert of Hot 97 on Red's Hot Five Radio Show. Recently, Confucian recorded a song with Vacant Lot / Priority Records recording artists, "Hot Ones". He has also completed and recorded a song with Epic Records recording artist, "Wayne O".
