Artist History BACKMASK emerged in 2001, setting out to create an original, balanced sound, combining catchy hooks and vocal harmonies with aggressive, dynamic music. BACKMASK’s do-it-yourself ethic and energetic live performances proved rewarding early on, quickly drawing capacity crowds in their hometown of Santa Barbara, California. In the Summer of 2002, BACKMASK focused on writing and recording new material for a promotional CD. As soon as it was released in the Fall of that year, BACKMASK’s song “Tomorrow Is Dead” reached #1 on the MP3.com metal charts, and #33 on the MP3.com mainstream charts, ahead of many chart-topping major label artists. “Tomorrow Is Dead,” with its anti-procrastination theme, could serve as the unofficial motto for the currently manager-free, unsigned band, who spend all of their free time making music. BACKMASK are currently working on their full-length debut CD, which will be available Fall 2003.
