Artist History Sandy Horne is a seasoned musician, with six albums and several EPs as a member of the 'spoons'. Since their beginnings in 1981, Spoons have earned 2 certified gold records, 2 Juno nominations and 7 CASBY awards. After a mutual departure from their record label, she has been involved in two independent dance releases with Leon Stevenson (Extras). More recently, she traded the bass guitar for an acoustic, and started collaborating with her long time friend Noella Witte. Katharin Thompson, is an accomplished pianist and cellist currently studying at Wilfred Laurier University, majoring in Baroque Cello. She is easy to pick out in the orchestra, because she is the one with the strangely coloured hair. Affectionately known as "Cello Biafra", the haunting sounds of her cello, are a thrid voice, heard prominently throughout the songs. At 6 years of age, Janine started taking piano lessons and by the end of high school, she had reached the highest possible level as an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. (A.R.C.T.) Then it was off to WLU for music theory. After graduating, she enrolled in tech school for Audio Engineering and Multi Media Production. "Diving Deep" was completed and we needed a keyboard player to save a major gig. Janine was parachuted in at the last minute to save the day and now the band is complete. "Diving Deep" is their debut CD self produced and engineered. It is a mystical ride of introspection. Difficult to describe, but accessible in many ways. In stores soon, their music has already attracted a loyal fan base in Southwestern ontario. Watch for upcoming gigs and info by getting on the mailing list. Email amaris@istar.ca. Amaris plays regularly at festivals and benefits, and now with the release of the CD, they are gearing up to take the show on the road. It is very difficult to describe the music of Amaris, in terms of genres. Some have likened the sound to Enya meets Pink Floyd. Regardless of how you describe it, the music will captivate you and send shivers down your spine. Ian Gifford of CHRW in London says, "Amaris is the group that demands to be heard, and won't let go once they have you..."
