Artist description
"FREE BACH" is dedicated to approaching the music of J.S. Bach (and, eventually, others) from a fresh perspective - that one being of people who did not stop listening to new music written after 1945, but instead immersed themselves with it. Jazz, Improvisation, Rock.. Freedom. It's all in our Bach. All of our recordings are made live, in concert, and no alterations have been made. We believe you'll hear the difference. |

Artist History
Russian-American violist Lev "Ljova" Zhurbin, has been contemplating the Bach Cello Suites since a child of 14. Now, at the age of 21, he has performed four out of the six suites in public. He has studied the music by himself, as well as various teachers, namely - Leonard Davis (former principal violist of the New York Philharmonic), Emanuel Vardi (famous viola soloist from the last century), Karen Ritscher (a great spirit in the New York Freelance World) and Samuel Rhodes (the wits of the Juilliard String Quartet). But perhaps the greater revelations about playing Bach came from the likes of Jacques Louisser (of the jazz trio "Play Bach") and Leopold Stokowski. Further, Lev has "tested" his Bach interpretations during his numerous performances in Central Park, and on the streets of Europe. |

Press Reviews
From Samuel Rhodes, violist of the Juilliard String Quartet, and Lev Zhurbin's former teacher: "I would cite his performance of the E-flat Bach Suite as one of the most original and imaginative I have ever experienced. A good part of the reason for this is that Mr. Zhurbin is an accomplished composer and that kind of creative imagination greatly affects his musicmaking." |
