Artist History
Alex Koffler aka The Beauty Above: nomadic…enigmatic…music addict… Great nephew of the legendary Kurt Weill…raised in NYC during the lost decade of the early eighties, this budding musician survived an unstable and often nomadic upbringing… at the age of eight, he performed at Madison Square Garden (with Judy Collins) under the direction of the much-revered choreographer Jaques d'Amboise, soon after, at age eleven, he studied briefly with Aaron Copeland, which greatly refined his musical abilities…twelve years later would find him in Paris, where he followed his artistic calling…he studied plastic and visual arts for a period of roughly three years, during which time he traveled throughout Europe, North Africa, and Asia, all the while supporting himself by working in the fashion industry…this lifestyle soon came to bore him and he sought to harness his voice and hone his musical skills…after working on a screenplay for French film legend Jean-Paul Belmondo, he abandoned the European urban life and ventured off to Bali, where he went to live on an artist’s colony…After moving back to the states, Alex settled temporarily in Sedona Arizona to do some spiritual healing…and so began his musical journey…a short stint with Goth-rockers Red Temple Spirits …and then a move to Austin, Texas to complete his first solo album, Necessary Illusions… |
