Artist History
Misselijk is the Dutch word for nauseous. Misselijk also stands for a famous punk rock band from the city of Utrecht, Holland. The members of Misselijk used to play in bands such as The Riddlers, The Nozems, The Vendettas and Not The John Wayne Orchestra. The five guys made quite an impact with their EP's '1997 - 1998' and 'Electric Babyland', both released on the domestic Pornogram-label. Formed in 1996, Misselijk toured with bands like Marky Ramone & The Intruders, Social Distortion, The Saints and The Buzzcocks. They also did two tours in Germany and a big tour in former Yugoslavia. Misselijk's debut-album Always Sick At Birthday Parties features sixteen melodic instant punkrock-classics. |

Press Reviews
Well, well, well, that was quite something. A barfull of young and mostly older folks had the right to enjoy the tunes by this quintet from Utrecht. The gentlemen had no objections against a mix of pub rock and punk rock, gathered at various places, with a bit of experience and, most of all, a talent for writing ooooowoooohoooeee sing along choruses. It was hot and humid and I was happy to be accompanied by some old punk rockers who could tell me exactly in what song the band sounded like which other band." (Peter in the Vera Krant)" ********** "After two thirds of the set, after the gentlemen have freed themself of garments that were too tight, they are all right and they even play some potential sing alongs. The atmosphere is pleasant: band members and their audience have gulped down a lot of alcohol and have put some of it on their clothes. A real punk rock band, Misselijk want to smash their instruments at the end of the show. Because they can't afford this yet, they wreck an old guitar, that was already obsolete when it was not meant to be out of order. It's not easy to be a punk rocker." (Hester Ramaer in Vonpopp)" ********** "Their songs are pleasing because of the simple structure and the compact sound. The most cheerful song is Stifflittlebuzzclasher, that has a melody line that keeps on wandering in your mind for minutes. This is the case in the most extreme form during the chorus: ‘Gotta gotta drink, gotta dotta drink, gotta gotta drink.’ Cheers!" (Jan van der Plas in Music Maker)" ********** "The sleeve of Misselijk is a Beatles parody, their punk rock with a lot of minor-keyed melodies sounds a lot more serious. In the last song on the EP, the singer, who shouts as if red peppers have been stuck up his ass, even quotes The Doors." (Fret) ********** "Misselijk plays cheerful boozy punk pop. Four songs to jump on. This is really not MISSELIJK..." (Opscene) ********** "The outrageous singer of Misselijk spits fire during one of the songs they play in the Kikker. Their sound is a bit ramshackle, but the group makes it into a hilarious and unforgettable gig. The adience understands that and catches up with the enthusiasm of the band. A promise for the future..." (Ingmar Griffioen in Vonpopp)" *********** "Our own little piece of punk rock-puke Misselijk." (Peter Bruyn in Utrechts Nieuwsblad) *********** |
