Artist description
A studio electronica project mixing up breakbeats/house/trance/ambient/downtempo into a single cohesive statement. This project is distinguished through the extensive use of actual instrument sounds (or samples of them) juxtaposed against the purely synthetic to create an ambience which is at once familiar and foreign. |

Artist History
The name of the project comes from Herman Hesse's novel Magister Ludi, or as it's translated into english, The Glass Bead Game. One of the themes of the story deals with the development of culture. In the novel, artistic development has all but stopped, and the highest form of artistic expression is the playing of a game known as The Glass Bead Game. In this game cultural/artisticc artifacts are recombined in original ways in an attempt to create new significance or meaning via their juxtaposition. This project is about the music that exists between the sounds. Extensive use is made of manipulated samples. Original samples are also created and manipulated without regard for the sample's origin. Every sound is a candidate for deconstruction/reconstruction.The intent is to bring into existence a music which was not inherent in the individual sound elements prior to their manipulation and recombination. For more information, or to be added to the Glass Beads mailing list, send e-mail to glassbeads@deton8.com |
