Artist History
In an industry saturated with carbon-copy artists, commercial antics, and the daily compromise of image over music, one outfit stands to change the tide and cause the currents to flow back in the direction of originality and unabashed creativity. This outfit stands in the forefront under the moniker Funktelligence. Carrying the Alternative Hip-Hop/Soul flavor well into the new millennium, they pioneer a sound all their own by achieving a balance between live instrumentation and electronic influence, raw energy and refined musicianship, commercial appeal and the respect of the underground.
The Funktelligence combination of a four-piece band, two lyricists, and one singer is a formula for success. Their first release, “Until Now” (January 2000) earned them the 2000 Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Hip-Hop/Funk recording. Funktelligence released an EP, “Earth Tones” in January 2002, and is currently preparing their second LP, to be released in the Fall/Winter of 2002. The band continues to tour throughout the Midwest/East Coast area and is determined to saturate the entire country with their fresh and innovative sound. In addition to a recently attained endorsement deal with Pro-Co Sound, sponsorship/distribution deals and Film/Television Licensing Agreements (through Tellfunkigence Music Publishing / Pingree Music Publishing) are being actively explored in support of the new album.
Funktelligence has opened for many major acts, including hip-hop’s dynamic live band The Roots, Spearhead, Morris Day and the Time, platinum R&B singers K-Ci and JoJo, Tyrese, Next, Ginuwine, and many more. Their national exposure includes an appearance on the Jenny Jones Show, and a feature in Billboard magazine. The music of Funktelligence has been featured on MTV’s “Undressed,” MTV online, in an internationally released sports video, and has received significant college radio airplay. Venues in Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and several cities in between have been quaking with the Funktelligence vibe… Now its time to expose the rest of the world to the Midwest’s best-kept secret. |
