Artist History Ultravibe is the result of David Laffin and Dave Burns collaborating on Laffin's solo demo. Burns and Laffin worked together at the local newspaper(Poughkeepsie Journal). Enter Ray Buglione, he also becomes a fellow employee, and a fellow band member. After many conversations ranging from a variety of topics dealing with music, the three decided to jam. Something miraculously clicked because we are talking about three people coming from very different musical backgrounds. Dave Burns jr. is the son of legendary jazz sideman Dave Burns who played with Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald. Dave jr. played with a variety of funk/rock bands from Long Island to Woodstock. David Laffin had bummed around New York doing small gigs with different bands until finally deciding to move to southern California with hopes of Hollywood stardom as an actor. After a chance meeting with Creed Bratton of the sixties pop band The Grass Roots, Laffin found himself in the music grind again gigging around Santa Barbara with Bratton. Family ties pulled tighter and Laffin returned to New York. Ray Buglione is affectionately known as Dr. Zoom because of his obsession with making the guitar sound like anything but a guitar. Of course when he does play it in a more traditional vein he plays with a mixture of melody and expressionistic style. So now you have a bassist with a jazz/funk background. A frustrated actor singing and playing the guitar, and an amazing guitar player that doesn't sound like a guitarist; what's next?, Josh Peni. Josh, who used to play with Laffin's brother years before, was just about to settle down with a cushy job from IBM. Not so fast, David told Josh about the band and said that no one else could fit in with this group other than him. Josh plays drums with finesse, and yet he can still bash them with the intensity of his idol John Bonham. So there it is the components that make up what is ULRTRAVIBE.
