    Artist History
Lux Voltaire previously performed with electro-rock-pop outfit SPIRE. He has been a member of numerous electronic and experimental outfits in Sydney, Lismore and in the Southern Highlands. He was founding member of S.E.O 90, SPIRE and ancient avant garde outfit One Tower. He has been a sound technician in Sydney in 1995, for a large audio-visual company, and a sound tech for a touring educational theatre group: Brainstorm. Lux is currently working on his second privately released CD under the current solo name of 'Lux Voltaire'. Lux has been tinkering with electronic music for 15 years, with at least 100 or more personal album length recordings under his rusty studded belt. Most of these recordings have not seen the outside world, until very recently when Lux compiled the very cream of these works, and packaged five CD's under the title: 'Black Pearls - The Very Best of Lux Voltaire'.

SPIRE Review: "Stemming from a heritage of technology based music-noise outfits, Lux Voltaire heads into a void of the unknown..., we wish him farewell!"Blue Velvet Bar & Nightclub: "Original Darkwave Beats".Lux Voltaire, one of the few australian's who is approaching theeuropean dark underground electronic music. With an impressive studiofilled with synths, samplers, computers & effect machines most peoplewill take the easy path and try to play mainstream sellout techno. Thankfully Damien of Lux doesn't. Ranging from hard beats with craftedmelodies to the more sensitive side of the electronic medium, Damiencomes from a long musical background and has found that the future lieswith loops, sequences & patterns. Using various vocal techniques tocompliment his music, the Lux Voltaire style is good for anyone wholikes a dance, or those who prefer to sit back and enjoy thecomplexities of a professional tune.Last friday [28th of april 2000] Lux Voltaire played his one man bandlive at the Blue Velvet bar in Collingwood. Every live show that I haveever seen, to be honest, has been pretty darn boring, a person behindsome equipment twiddling some knobs. It's nice to know that there aredecent alternatives. Damien mostly pre-programs his tracks so he canconcentrate more on the major changes in the songs, singing andinteracting with his crowd. Memorable moments include Lux walking awayfrom his equipment, opening the door to Blue Velvet and singing outside,or lying down in his own style on the ground expressing his own wickedsense of humour. Little comments between each song always offers a morepersonal such as "this is an old goth anthem just for you..." as anintroduction to his song "Dark Faith," and for those who have watchedhim several times, realise that he's not far from the truth. The othermemorable track was his new song "Interceptor" with a nice beating VNVNation flourish. Watching him play, you can see he enjoys himself, andit's a great pleasure to watch and listen, you can laugh along and findmuch introspection in what he showcases. As previously mentioned, it's nice to see an Australian band taking themore European underground electronic approach instead of being swampedwith American influenced bands. With a midsection of sounds from greatelectro acts like VNV Nation and Front Line Assembly, it gives me agreat hope of future Australian music.- jarodground under productionshttp://gup.gottencog.com/
