Artist History
Cottonmouth was originally formed in 1989 as a five piece, the members met while attending college. In 1991 Cottonmouth released Official Demo which was quite a success, getting college radio play and spawning many live shows. during the summer of 1992 the original bass player left the group. The band regrouped becoming a four peice. guitarist Eric Roberts picking up the bass to fill the void. In 1993 Going to Pot was released, followed by a sizable tour of the Midwest. The tour was highlightedby serveral important shows including Hemp festivals and a finalist appearance in an area Battle of the Bands. The finalist appearance was a notable accomplishment, Cottonmouth being the only band playing strictly original music, as well as the only heavy band to make the finals. Going to Pot recieved extensive college radio air play throughout the nation, and had many positive reviews from magazines, newspapers and club owners. Toward the end of 1994 drummer Aaron Roberts left the band and was swiftly replaced by Butch McMaster, who proved to be an asset from the start. With exceptional talent for percussion and producing, Butch fast became an invaluable part of Cottonmouth. With less than a month to prepare, Butch played the bands last gig of the year at the Kansas Hempfest. Cottonmouth spent 1995 getting to know their newest member by playing a few gigs and writing all new material. During 1995 Cottonmouth played a gig opening for Atlantic recording artist Overkill. Cottonmouth sold more tickets on the street than Overkill did through ticket outlets. In 1996, Cottonmouth purchaced their own recording equipment and began fine tuning their studio. While continuing work in their studio and exploring the Internet market, the band released a four song demo Pipe Dreams in 1997. A new year again brought change for Cottonmouth, when long time bassist Eric Roberts left the band. The band continued to jam, and began auditioning musicians to fill the bass position once again. Alex Honke proved to be right for the band, a young player with plenty of talent and attitude Cottonmouth was searching for. Cottonmouth recently purchaced all new recording equipment, and currently is aggressively working release the full length Pipe Dreams which is tentatively set for the summer of the new millennium and working with their attorney to protect their service mark Cottonmouth which is a federally registered trademark in the United States. |
