Artist History
Where to begin?
Bob Hate (The nom de guitar of W.T. Pfefferle), really sort of came to life in Arzona in the late 70s and early 80s. There he led a neo-post-pre-new wave band called The Age, and recorded under the Oliver Todd alias, releasing the briefly brilliant single "Dream Street." After a brief stint with Slow Children in D.C. in 83 & 84, he became Bobby Arizona in Mississippi. But that was short-lived.
It wasn't until the move to Dallas in 1986 that Bob Hate came alive in the way we know him today.
Leading a variety of bad bar bands (Blue Hotel, King Hell, Los Trens, Kansas City!, The Wheels, etc.), he didn't really hit his stride until the early 90s and the founding of The Eddy Band. Formed with longtime Mississippi pal Chet Hix, Eddy existed in a number of formats during the 90s. They made the "Bad in my Car" Cd in 96, then Bob did the solo trip on "Better Man Than I've Been" in 1998.
But he concentrated on cover bands in the late 90s, playing upwards of 100 nights a year. It was highly lucrative, but dispiriting.
The 7 piece Kansas City! played a big finale show on Bob's 37th birthday (at the Velvet Elvis in Dallas, right under the large black velvet painting of the King!), and since then he's been out of the live scene. There were rumors that he had started a big horn band in Florida, but there's no confirmation of that.
He relocated to Maryland in 2000 and has been reclusive ever since. He can be reached via email here.
