Artist description
Best described as a hybrid of sleazy jazz, snidefolk ballads and gutter blues, together making aperversely interesting repertoire. The AndyMcDonell Contraption weave their way throughsongs of love and death, of hope and hopelessness,of sex and boats and dogs. Curious stories from a sincere, yet untrustworthy narrator. |

Press Reviews
eXpress Courier Mail newspaper Music/Culture liftoutBrisbane. Queensland. Australia.Edited by Noel MengelWednesday 1st March 2000New Album SNAPSHOTSDespite the well-publicised difficulties for bands of finding a gig, we've never known a time when there has been such a depth and diversity of original music being made in Queensland. There is a perception that the only good music being made here is pitched at the youth market but the new album by The Andy McDonell Contraption,"Snapshots", should change that. The album reveals the breadth of the bands' timeless sound, from off-kilter jazz/soul to swinging rhythm and blues to gypsyfolk and the Euro-flavours of Jacques Brel, with a touch of mariachi and circus music thrown in for goodmeasure. Snapshots was produced by veteran songwriter and performer Brian Cadd at his Ginger Man Soundstudio on the Gold Coast, and he deserves credit for helping harness McDonell's song writing skills into such an original finished product.
