    Artist History
Singer Bad Dancer (named for a friend of the band who sang in another local act but was not too good on his feet) was formed on Cape Cod, MA, in the fall of 1997 by original members Jackie Stevenson, Rob Cushing, Ryan Bihler (as rhythm guitarist), Jon Goodridge and Pete Maguire. Citing musical differences, Ryan soon left the band after its formation, leaving it a four-piece. Originally a cover band, SBD (as it is sometimes referred to as) was poised to begin several shows in the Cape area, when Pete received notice of a job offer in Florida. Quickly scrambling to find a replacement, Singer Bad Dancer came across Malden, MA native Shaun Lewis, who kept the beat going for SBD's first year, helping the band take 1st runner-up in the 1999 UMass Dartmouth Battle of the Bands. Shaun then decided to return to Malden to pursue a career, and it was at this time that Pete returned from Florida, and easily resumed his position as drummer. There was a period of 5 months in 2000 where the band had temporarily split, then reformed that fall, this time switching over to original music. The switch came naturally, and it showed when they took a semi-finalist spot in WKPE-FM's "Rockslide 3" competition, beating out 18 other acts from all over New England for the coveted spot. In the spring of 2001, the band finally decided to go in and cut their debut EP. A few months later, "Pass The Sombrero" was born. (FYI, the name of the album comes from the band's beginnings, when during practice, any member who messed up had to wear a sombrero for the remainder of the next song...needless to say, the sombrero got passed around a LOT). The 5-song album quickly attracted local, statewide and regional attention (and even national: MTV used one of the songs for its weekly drama "Undressed") and began to receive rave reviews from several Boston magazines, and the success of Pass The Sombrero allowed Singer Bad Dancer to begin touring across Massachusetts and beyond. "Sweet Jessica" will also be featured on a forthcoming independent film out of New Hampshire in 2002. In early 2002, Jackie and Jon left the band to pursue other interests, and were replaced by new vocalist Jen Whalen and new bassist Mike Waite. Currently seeking a second guitarist and a management deal, Singer Bad Dancer is poised to take on New England and beyond.
