    Artist History
Joan picked up the guitar at age eleven and began writing her own songs. She had been playing piano since she was quite young, studying harmony and theory. Music was her passion then, and remains so today. A prolific and gifted songwriter, Joan describes her music as "contemporary-new-age folk." By 1989 Joan was playing frequent gigs around Central Indiana. She began actively studying classical guitar and working on the material which was to become In The Morning Shade, her first CD release. The CD was recorded at Sleepy Creek Studio, in Unionville, Indiana with Grey Larsen as co-producer, engineer and instrumentalist on the project. The results were a delightful collection of original tunes that received national airplay and some label distribution throughout the Midwest. In 1995 Joan began recording her second CD, Picture Book, once again working at Sleepy Creek with Grey. One of the tracks from Picture Book, "My Little Sister Rides A Harley" was selected for inclusion on the nationally distributed OasisAcoustic Volume III compilation CD, and was subsequently added to the rotation of several country music stations across the United States. In 2000 she self-produced her third CD, Grand Avenue, recording many of the tracks in her own studio. Oasis will once again be including a cut from this CD on their upcoming Acoustic Sampler, slated for fall, 2000 release.
