Artist History
"I don't see much of a difference between artists like The Cure or Stevie Wonder... great songs are great songs!" says California singer/songwriter Greg Dean "My Mom got me into music......Motown, The Beatles, all kinds of stuff. I'd listen to Bowie and then throw on Simon and Garfunkel. I saw and heard a lot 'cause I went to a different school
every year of my life, sometimes two. At the big gatherings," Greg's father is part Chickasaw Indian,"I'd hear the shakers, rattles, and drums and then go home and hear the same groove thing in my MOm's records. Looking back, it makes perfect sense that I ended up writing songs."
Greg started sculpting his sound while attending the University of California Santa Barbara California. After a move to the San Fransisco Bay Area he recorded with Dean Dinning and Randy Guss of Toad The Wet Sprocket. His spacey electric guitar and beat-driven moody pop songs have been likened to Nick Drake, The Cure, and Coldplay. He's been a featured artist on venerable Bay Area stations
99.3 kcsf and 103.3 kscu and shortly before self-releasing his debut album, the subtle art of distraction, he landed the #1 position on Garageband.com, the website launched by producer and former Talking Head Jerry Harrison. Music Connection Magazine raves "a tuneful balance of light and dark" and recently placed him in their best unsigned bands issue. 2003 has already seen Greg win honorable mention
in Los Angeles' Diy Music and Film Festival and a slot in Toronto's North by Northeast Festival. The Subtle Art of Distraction, is available now at www.cdbaby.com/gregdean |
