Artist description This solo COMPOSER has worked in CLASSICAL SINGING and performance video. Gary Space started as a FINE ARTIST.He is inspired by all aspects of SERIOUS MUSIC AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC, blues and some pop. The music of which most typifies his output is Symphony X. Symphony X; This recording is created using a combination of real instrument sounds, keyboards and a type of 'Music Concrete'. Music Concrete is a form of art music which is created using tape (or in this case digital audio) editing.Theose recorded sounds which are not performed, but rather just recorded onto a blank track, are manipulated, ie;the pitch is altered so that, in one example middle 'C' becomes one octave higher. Sounds are also stttrrettcheed (sic) flangered, modulated etc. The sounds which are recorded for audio manipulation might be Gary singing Ave Maria. The 'A' sound from the chorus is cut out and played around with. It is then juxtaposed with,for example, the sound of a bell ringing. This technique in Gary Space' work is usually only a part of the whole process which includes sequenced musical phrases and instruments or singing performed live in the conventional way recorded, and added to the multi- track. The process is similar to using paper collage in visual art. However, the collage in this case is added to a 'painted' picture. Minimalism also features much in Gary Space' work. He isinterested in the work of American composer Philip Glass. This rather mechanical form of minimalism can be heard in Modicom. The recording of Modicom available here is an abreviated version.The full version is twenty five minutes long and would not be very easy to stream on an internet site. This piece uses simple two and three note themes that are repeated,added to,altered in pitch and rythm gradually thru the duration of the music. Gary Space has been a spiritualist medium for some time. The mystical side of mediumship influences his music in its feel and themes. The Symphony X is a reflection of the dreamy aspect of meditational practice which is often interupted by mundane everyday occurances.
