Artist History
The Malcontents formed in Los Angeles in 1992 after ex-Torontonian, Doug Cawker, gave up the drums & switched to guitar and lead vocals and joined his good friends' Dave Dunton, Gord Dagleish, & Darryl Stapelton to create some rocking sounds. Influenced by the loose, alcohol-fueled noise of the early to mid-period Replacements, The Malcontents want to spread their sickness! |

Press Reviews
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL-November, 2003 - The Fantastic Five/The Malcontents - split EP
"There's some serious moodiness from these students of punk, each of whom contributes two good tracks. THE MALCONTENTS purvey a slowed-up droney sound (imagine an American pop punk My Bloody Valentine) with their think piece, "Street Girl," and then end this perfect 4-tracker with a cover of WIRE'S "The 15th," originally from their rarely explored 154 album! (Henry Yu), TOXIC FLYER-August, 2003 "A cool 7" of 60's style garage punk with a power pop edge that has a LEAVING TRAINS meets the REPLACEMENTS feel with a hint of the ONLY ONES as well.. four stars!" (Billy Whitfield), SONIC IGUANA-April, 2002 "Punkest release of this issue! Juiced up, lo-fi, Only Ones-style punk!!" (Jeff Dahl), HIT LIST-June, 2001 "This record reminds me a lot of the Replacements. It's pretty fucking good, with real solid songwriting and heartfelt playing!" (JC), MAXIMUMROCKNROLL-March, 2001 "This three song pop single is soaked with greatness! The honey boy vocals sing about liquor stores with the kind of romance that might just bring tears to your little red eyes!" (DL) |
