Press Reviews
The 13 Passions of HerIleana's "Miles To Go" Crosses the Burdens Part of what makes this human experience bearable is discovery. When you find the special things in life, it makes it all worth it. It could be a certain flavor of ice cream, a made-for-cable television series or an amazing song. It can be anything that connects us with someone else or some other force. It is through these daily explorations, that we sculpt a life. Albuquerque singer/songwriter Ileana has captured a something special on her "Miles to Go." The music is charming and carefree when it seems to simply flow on tracks such as "Magenta" and "Serendipity." Conversely, it is pure, rainy-day melancholy with tracks like, "Just Give Up On Us," and the acoustic hidden track "Silent Tears." The lyrics go hand in hand with the music by putting words to the tonal emotions. Even though there are depressing undertows, the music in "Beyond Reproach" tries to remain upbeat. The lyrics step in and mirror the sentiment. The song summary is you try to go through life and remain happy, but all around you is deceit. Then, as an observation, comes the brilliant lyric, "What they don't know can't hurt me." The really dynamic glue that holds it all together is the voice. Ileana's voice is like electrically charged velvet. On some songs it is raw like lightning and other songs it is polished and soft. It has an energy all to itself. On some songs it is the voice of a little girl lost in innocence and on other songs it exposes a mature, battle worn veteran of love. The album is like a Convenience Store of Passion. It has captured a wide range of emotions and placed them together for you to pick, up listen and think about. With the exception of a Booty Fest Disco Party, this record is always a good record to listen to in most situations: even if you have miles to go before you sleep. -Fletch@bandwear.com |
