Press Reviews
WIDE WORLD OF PUNK Hillside Stranglers - Entertainment (CD)Quite a while ago I reviewed the Hillside Stranglers first EP and I was impressed by it. It was a pleasure reviewing theirfull-length CD when it arrived recently! The Hillside Stranglers are a 4-piece from Detroit who show some definite influencefrom their surroundings. Their music is rough as hell, just like the city itself (check out the song "Psycho City"), and their style islike an angrier version of Detroit's Stooges with a much heavier hardcore sound. The gruff vocals are shouted out over theintense wall of music which just screams to be cranked up on your stereo. The guitars and bass kick you hard right in the ass, while the drums sound like thunder rolling through a raging storm. Don't go looking for pop-hooks or sweet melodies from theHillside Stranglers, these guys play pissed-off, intense, hardcore punk rock!! This CD is highly recommended, especially thesongs: Entertainment, Time Really Flies,'92, and Psycho City.FLIPSIDE Tough as nails butt kicking punk rock record. There's something about Detroit bands, I dunno, that just ain't like any other town on earth. Most of the songs on this release are pretty fast, the guitar sounds manic, and the vocals are great. It's a pretty amazing, brutal batch of eleven killer no pun intended) songs. That's a recommendation. MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL"Greetings From Detroit"Snot filled. a plethora of unintelligle harsh vocals. A naughty '77 dream. Like Showcase Showdown on crack. TOP 10 on several reviewers list. |
