Check your mind and prepare yourselves -- it’s The Gluey Brothers, a phenomenal five man band busting out of Santa Fe, NM with a passion for old school funk, childhood icons and tasty edible treats -- perpetrators of a displaced circus sideshow, creeping up on you like the Fuller Brush man with a funky-ass soundtrack.

    Artist History
DTS has just released the new album, 'Stiff for the Elders' in 5.1 Surround Sound. -------------By Joe Collier (Flagstaff News) Easily one of the most startling bands in the U.S., The Gluey Brothers strive for more than just audience gawking and limp stage maneuvers -- these guys jump into the crowd, pump it up and get involved -- joyously wrecking any attempts to just fade into the background. They’ve got the goods to back it up. They’ve toured thirteen states in the west and were selected to appear at the Grammy Showcase in L.A., the NEA Extravaganza ‘97 in Nashville, and the infamous South By Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. They were featured recently on national television on Penn & Teller's Sin City Spectacular. This razor sharp group of funky prestidigitators is led by the twisted twosome cryptically known only as M.C. Tahina and King Hummus -- two fiercely entertaining performers not particularly known for their fashion sense, nonetheless guided by a higher purpose and inspired vision. The “geniuses” behind the wild ride of old-school funk, lucid rapping, acid blues and performance art first met and performed together at Walter Reed Junior High School in Studio City, California. But it was their subsequent reunion and shared fondness for Middle Eastern cuisine (a fateful co-consumption of falafel in a North Hollywood eatery in 1989 spawned the adoption of their unusual -- yet immediately intriguing and endearing--names) that gave birth to the beautifully bizarre sonic slurp that’s slowly but surely capturing the hearts, minds, and burritos of fans across the Southwest and beyond since their relocation to Santa Fe a few years ago. The Gluey Brothers manufacture a sound and vibe that’s miraculously fresh in today’s stopped up sewer of recycled, worn-out, tried-and-true-and incredibly-boring music, a sound made possible by the monstrously delicious talents of a certain trio of borderline-mental outpatients, the Established Gentlemen (a.k.a. Dollar Store Cowboy,Uncle Moustache and Leif Rakker). The Gluey Brothers are more than just a good band making great music -- they are a total experience, combining a wide variety of styles and sound with elements of musical theater and more than a little humor. When these guys take the stage, it’s a full blown show, complete with quizzically arranged stage props, mock-theatrics contrasting the sublime and the ridiculous, and the kind of outfits usually reserved for the Spring Formal at the Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity house. Check out their self produced debut CD, Luncheon Meat Of The Giants (released in June of 1996), and you’ll begin to get the picture. It’s a seventy five minute caravan of pure musical prowess -- unadulterated funky eclecticism winding its way through a myriad of styles and genres, amazingly (and damn near unbelievably) weaving them into a succinctly cohesive, brilliant package. And it doesn’t even touch their live show. They are currently in pre-production of a new record, but are presently unsigned by a record company. Every band promises to be unique. Every band promises to be outrageous or mind-blowing. Every band talks the talk. The Gluey Brothers are one band that walks the walk. Strap in and prepare yourselves. The Gluey-mojo is workin’...and it’s creeping your way.

    Press Reviews
These guys are simultaneously a train wreck of gaudy fashions: the towering babyfaced Hummus leans heavily on the '70s pimp look, with his bellbottom action slacks, wide-rimmed black hat and medallion; and Tahina, a herky-jerky Don Knotts on acid, sports a pointy Peruvian hat, carpool-mother sunglasses and gold lame' pants. The Gluey Brothers throw gobs of ideas at each other and the audience, and, true to their name, the schtick sticks! Miriam Jacobson, LA Weekly, September 28, 1994-------- Except for the cowboy hats, the Gluey Brothers look like they went shopping with Herb Tarlek, the ad salesman from television's "WKRP." They wear mismatched clothes that are so loud and generally scary that they should be required to come equipped with dark glasses--for the patrons. Bill Locey, L.A. Times, December 10, 1997-------- "It is not the aim of this record to hypnotize you. It will teach you to apply powerful, positive suggestion. The same suggestion I use myself to relax my own mind and body.' So begins 'Luncheon Meat of the Giants,' one of the oddest. most eclectic collections of you-gotta-hear-it-to-believe-it to ever hit record stores. Each time I finish listening to this disc, I walk away thinking, 'Do not try this at home.' The Davis Enterprise, October 1,1998-------- These guys are showmen supreme, even when they're accessorizing with John Deer Farm Equipment hats and pup tents (don't ask). They blend a lot of disparate sounds to create their own unique sonic landscape where anything can happen. New Times, San Luis Obispo October 2, 1997-------- Some bands humor their audience to make them feel comfortable. Other bands, however, intentionally use humor make audiences feel uncomfortable. The Gluey Brothers have pursued option two. A twisted amalgam of heavy metal, hip hop, 70's kitsch, and their own patented dementia, The Brothers often confront audiences at their shows. David Serchuk, Boulder Weekly, July 2, 1998.
