Artist description
Sucking Strange Divine (SSD) is a collective experiment in improvised music. What you hear has been culled from countless hours of taped improv/jam sessions recorded on minimal equipment, then edited and digitally manipulated at a 24 track home studio. Some material contains overdubs recorded after the fact, others are juxtapositions of previously unrelated elements. The approach to the mix down is much more methodical and even conceptual at times. The combination of inspired lo-fi anomalies and painfully thought out post-production make for an explosive, perfect match. The CD Will To Provoke” represents 3 years (98-2000) of collaborations with various musicians from the local area to the other ends of the world. This is a snapshot of the many musical landscapes explored within the time frame. It all seems to fall somewhere between post modernism and irony"Will To Provoke" is indicative of our dedication to freely improvised music and itspossibilities |

Artist History
Sucking Strange Divine began as a solo 4 track plunderphonics project by Joshua Duringer (founder and producer of SSD) and slowly morphed into numerous collaborations with a cornucopia of musicians and artists from diverse backgrounds. In 1997, long time friend and past band mate Mike Stover and Joshua started recording and performing as a duo featuring drums, guitar and various electronics. Unfortunately, Mike is not currently a contributor to SSD but is featured on the majority of Will To Provoke” and is dearly missed. Check out his solo stuff sometime. The other improvisers heard on this CD are from several geographical locations as well as their various other projects. Sucking Strange Divine is mostly a studio project and rarely plays out but a few times a year. A new CD with some old and new musicians compiled from 2000 to present is in the works and should be out by summer (or whenever). |
