Artist description
Rock and roll is taboo. Few bands today are willing to subject
themselves to such a stereotype. The others prefer to hide under vague
genres that clutter a musical landscape filled with wannabe icons, fake
punk and over-hyped-under-talented "artists".
It's something that bothers speedbump.
The four piece outfit from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada plays
rock and roll in the tradition of great Canadian bands of the past.
Although they may agree that the sound has changed from BTO or Max
Webster, one thing remains the same; the music has the power to
move.
Framed by Craig Wilkinson's intricate guitar work, and backed by driving
rhythms from Tim Ambler and Jon Foan, Jer Thorp's lyrics travel a
twisted path; through contemporary literature to pop culture and back. It
is a path through a sonic landscape that is as vast and as varied as the
country that inspired it. Reviewers, fans and critics have compared their
music to Pearl Jam, The Tragically Hip and The Tea Party; though the
sum of the parts is truly unique. Live, speedbump is dynamic, electrifying,
and captivating. Recorded, they are equally impressive with their debut
release "fresh out of quarters".
Simply put -- speedbump rocks. |
