Artist History Singer/songwriter Scott Argiro has been writing and recording music almost his entire life. His musical passion stems back to the Victorian town of Cape May, NJ where his family vacationed each summer of his youth. It was within this seaside resort town where Argiro's eyes were first opened to music. “New Jersey was emerging with a wide-array of bands and lounge singers in the mid 70’s. As a kid, I recall standing on the boardwalk outside of the clubs, mesmerized by the sound and energy radiating from within. Those summer nights in Jersey exposed me to a variety of musical styles at a very young age...Elvis, Chicago, Dylan, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, Springsteen. I’d stand outside the clubs awaiting the doors to swing open just long enough for me to catch a glimpse of the musicians on stage. I’d literally stand there for hours soaking it all in!” Originally a percussionist, Argiro began experimenting with various musical instruments at a very young age. While drums remain his true passion, the multi-instrumentalist began exploring additional creative avenues, and songwriting was a natural progression. “Growing up, we had a Kimball piano in our living room. I taught myself to play piano and later bass and guitar...the writing and singing progressed from there.” These early years of creative experimentation have built Argiro an impressive catalog of over two-hundred songs published under The Argiro Publishing Company (BMI). After playing drums with various bands throughout Pittsburgh, Argiro stepped out from behind the kit and began fronting his own solo projects as well as several successful local bands. His rapid success as a singer/songwriter built him a loyal following contributing to airplay and a steady performance schedule including opening shows for national acts. Argiro is most recognized as the frontman for The Naked Citizens, a rising rock-trio based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1998, Argiro relocated to Sausalito, CA where he began writing and recording "The Sausalito Sessions", a collection of some of the most artistic and passionate work of his career. "Sausalito’s rich history coupled with its early counter-culture, not to mention the legendary Plant Studios, provided an ideal backdrop for songwriting...it proved to be a positive transition for me artistically”. Argiro has always held an ability to lyrically paint everyday experiences and observations while remaining true to his art and indifferent to passing trends. His untraditional approach to his craft has achieved him a style worthy of more than standard conventional genre classifications. “My writing has always been lightly auto-biographical. I try to keep it universal and genuine though. When someone reads into the work and forms their own interpretation, that’s when I know I’ve accomplished something...explored a real place.” His work combines the perfect balance of vivid imagery, vibrant rhythms and true universal appeal.
