Artist History
1995 - John Damask & Robert Gaggin (former thrash kids from Long Island) start writing in Boston with no other thoughts than playing Tom Waits' type tunes in coffee houses. Released first 7" to college radio in 1995 and the response was so good they continued to write, record, and release a new 7" every semester. Justin Day picked up for bass one day on a street corner. He was tired of selling his cute bootie to businessmen for cheap and wanted something more stable. We offered him BIG ROCK and he's been jumping off of amps ever since. First CD "Dali Ravioli" released on Cactus Records in 1998. Charted on college radio all around the country and even got a fair bit of international airplay. The record has been hailed as one of the strongest releases in Boston in 1998 and left many reviewers searching for a quick term to describe the music. |

Press Reviews
CDReviews.com: 5 of 5 rating "If I were forced to come up with a definitive classification, I'd honestly have a hard time deciding where to slot this one. There's a certain raw, small club thrash quality, molded nicely with melodic outbursts, dark and moody instrumentation at times as well, all falling together in a package that escapes a general comparison to anyone else".
24-7 Local Music News: "Ah, the wonderful things that come my way via the crazy, yet beautiful world of the Internet. One of which happens to be Sayhitolisa, a three piece, guitar-pop outfit from Allston. I cannot pinpoint one band in particular that they resemble, and that is not a bad thing. If you want to hear a band with a fresh, unique sound and strong songwriting abilities, then look no further."
The Noise: "SAYHITOLISA CRANKS! Every song packs a powerful punch - heavy distortion, ballsy bass lines and hefty drumming - yet there is something unique about each song that makes 'em all stand out on their own."
Northeast Performer: "There is a strong foundation of pop to these guys that seems to add some serious bulk and power to their sound and the overall creative production gives the whole album a good full feeling. Sayhitolisa is a power-pop band but hardly can be pigeon-holed into this category."
THIS Magazine: "This disc kind of bridges a gap between modern alterna-pop and 70's space-glam. Bowie meets Floyd meets Nirvana meets Pavement. Good stuff!" |
