RODRIGO SIGAL - MANIFESTO
This is "on the edge stuff" and I love it. A
mesmerizing blend of classical chamber music and
avant garde, replete with ambient noise, synths,
loops and sampled real life noises. The opening
track has an Edgar Varese vibe going with a steely
flute and lots of curious strangeness. Track 2
starts with piano themes and then dives into the
deep end. There are flashes of melancholic strings
and other orchestral timbres amid the collage of
sounds. Stereo effects abound, and I dare you to
pull on the headphones! Sigal comes from Mexico
and the liner notes are in Spanish and English. If
you were like me and listened to Revolution No. 9
on the Beatles White Album all the way through,
everytime, and actually enjoyed it -- you will
surely enjoy this brilliant CD immensely. Very
cool. Very moving. Very 20th century.

RODRIGO SIGAL - MANIFESTO
'...I would like - if I may, to take you on a strange
journey...' So begins a rather interesting project
which takes in a whole range of styles, from
classical, to eclectic electronic & sampling &
beyond. Over a period of a little more than 70
minutes, Rodrigo, who originates from Mexico,
shows you his rather unique world of sound
which encompasses some interesting &
challenging sounds.
Accompanied along the way by a orchestral
group, solo flute, piano & guitar in different
tracks, he manages to arrange the music to
become a sort of aural scenery if you like.
Although there are only 5 tracks here, the album is
full of very interesting sounds which accompany
the instruments.
My pick of the tracks vary, according to
individual sections of each, the sampling of
opener "Babel", the western movie soundtrack
styling of "Dolor En Mi" & the piano musings of
closer "El Firmamento", which is an excellent
rendition of (as the liner notes say) how the night
sky might sound with piano. Should be a very
interesting follow up to this project, should the
direction of the music continue.
