Artist History
The larval OSMO emerged from the festering ruins of Seattle’s once critically acclaimed Ivans Hose sometime in 1995, only to retreat underground to partake in extended aesthetic think tanks, culminating in the construction of a custom analog-digital recording studio and hundreds of hours of spent 1/2” tape and stacks of full Jaz disks. In fall of 97, OSMO released the first of their studio recordings on the B-side of a 7" split single with San Francisco’s Swell, on the newly launched noiseTank label. An accompanying video produced by noiseTank Laboratories quickly followed, and can be viewed on-line (www.noisetank.com/images/video). OSMO’s second release on noiseTank, a 6-song CD-EP entitled Red and Twyla Grey, is imminent. |

Press Reviews
Osmo/Swell split single reviews:
I'll start with Osmo. Other than being insanely jealous because they get to share this slab of vinyl with Swell, I was impressed by Osmo, and their contribution. They share with Swell an appreciation of creating a structure within their song that is almost solid. Smooth vocals over shifting guitar, and wise use of space, filling the
song with the parts between the beats as well as keeping the beat steady and moving. Surreal Pop? Indie moody? Either way, I like it!

If ever there was a split single spotlighting a teacher/student relationship, it would be the 7-incher by San fransisco's SWELL and new Seattle band OSMO. Osmo's entry "Reservoir" is exactly that, a reservoir of sadness and longing. The
flashes of guitar atmospherics complement the mood laid down by a moping vocalist. But Osmo let their
emotions rule them, making for an affecting but obvious song.
-- Joe Ehrbar. "The Rocket" January 14-28,1998, Seattle
New song from the Swell guys, more in the explosive guitar vein of "Bongstar" than their usual quiet m.o. Osmo's song sounds like a hybrid of Codeine and Galaxie 500, in a 1990 dirgy/hooky way.
-- Ajax Records, Chicago
I got it [Swell/Osmo single] yesterday and haven't stopped listening to it yet."Bitter Friends" just blew me away, and "Reservior" is great. I couldn't have imagined both would be this good....You guys should do a tour together....
-- Chris Boyd, Baton Rouge, LA
I already knew Swell, but was amazed by the Osmo song. I haven't got excited about a band for a long while... I'm looking forward to hearing more from Osmo.
-- Michael Penne, Benicia, CA
Of course I am prejudiced as far as Swell is concerned, but Osmo was indeed a pleasant
surprise. In the musical spectrum I would put it somewhere between Swell and Slint with a touch of Pavement. That's a good thing! I will definitely watch for more Osmo stuff.
