Press Reviews In the info sheet attached to this demo the members of Helm gives a negative picture of the synth scene. They think that most of the listening oriented synth music today is based on "worn out clichés from the early eighties" and has "no new influences". This is the reason why the members of Helm have consciously chosen to step away from their previously rather traditional way of making music. They now try to mix many different music stiles into something that feels new but still recognisable to me. "A brighter spot in the blackened hole" contains many fresh and innovative creations that does not have much in common with the usual kind of synth or other kind of music as far as that goes. The tunes have influences from as diverse music styles as industrial, hip-hop, jazz, techno and indie-rock. From these stiles Helm manage to produce rather cool sounding music with interesting structures of the melodies. However, they do not completely master the blend of these stiles yet. That is why the demo feels a bit rambling.
