Artist description
3D Artist, Composer, and Director only begin to describe his well-rounded talents. Joel Payne, commonly referred to as a modern day Renaissance Man was born and raised in Southern California. "High School was boring," says, Joel. Reading his class material in advance made his teachers and school less than exciting. His parents decided he needed something to occupy his desire to release his imagination. With this, came the purchase of his first Amiga computer. The rest of course is history…In the eighties Joel began to teach himself basic 2D computer art with D-paint, while moonlighting in the theatre. Attending college and working part time as a waiter, spare time to do computer artwork became just a hobby. Scoring plays was very challenging for him. Joel was credited in several newspapers and made the grade in several larger review magazines for his talent. Yes, he even found time to compose. After collage Joel started working as a page for Universal Studios. Sneaking onto the Back Lot and sound stages he had a foreshadowing of his future. While watching the taping of a show called Sea Quest DSV, his life would soon change direction for ever. They used an Amiga to do the 3D effects. He imagined, much like anyone who had seen the film Jurassic Park, that his dreams could be realized. The impossible was possible. "I came to understand that I could create anything I dreamed of, anything I desired," says the now nine year 3D veteran. That year while sneaking around the sets, Joel began making his own adventure game believing it was a much easier step towards "Breaking in to the Biz." This landed him his first job in the PC gaming industry. Over the next few years he would come to teach himself Alias, 3D Studio Max, Softimage, Maya, and Lightwave. His ability to master these widely used packages gave him the opportunity to work with such companies as Intel, Microsoft, Gameworks, Disney, Sony, Corel, JVC, and Nintendo. Three 3D rides, sixteen games, and a full length, 4 hour long interactive movie since he began at age 20, he speaks proudly of his career offering hope for young dreamers just starting out.The demand for his creativity began to spread like fire through a desert. Realizing this, Joel decided he needed a means to serve his growing fan base. He founded Fiercestudios.com in 1998. Having several requests for his music, fans contacted him for professional and personal scores. He decided to take a risk and showcase his music on a new web site called mp3.com. 32 of his songs would come to reach the top 10 in five different categories. Two songs would reach #1. His film scores would be the first film music for mp3’s top 40 list adding him to the artist spotlight section on their front page. Reaching in excess of 4000 downloads of the song " Sargasso Sea" led to the release of Kings Heart later to be used for the movie trailer "Animal Farm" by Jim Henson and company. Recently, Joel has teamed up with some of the best industry talent, creating 3D sets for a prime time cartoon for Sony and is pursuing the release of his debut 3D film. Look out Hollywood!Joel Payne is definitely a name I look forward to seeing more of in the future. You can currently purchase his 3D Digital Backlot and look for new products including a seamless image library hosting 300 photo realistic and hand painted textures. |
