Artist description
They're one of the best kept secrets in modern
music, with one foot in the world of huge
techno/industrial/electronic beats, the other in
the anthem-like verse-chorus-verse sphere of
post-alt rock. Hate Dept.'s Seibold may have a
reputation as the re-mixer's re-mixer and a dance
floor guru, but his band is a rock & roll force
to be reckoned with and its third album (and first for
Restless Records), Technical Difficulties, is the
culmination of more than two years in the studio.
Building genres as he does notes and emotions, the
multi-instrumentalist constructed these songs from
the ground up with real drums, guitars, bass and
keyboards, then ran them through the computer for a
truly groundbreaking fusion of nature and science. |

Artist History
Hate Dept.'s first album, meat.your.maker, came out on
21st Circuitry through Caroline in '94 and Omnipresent
followed in '96 on Neurotic/Thump, with both records
appearing on Rolling Stone's Top Ten alternative album
chart. "New Power", a song from Omnipresent, actually
topped the Alternative Press dance chart, earning national
airplay in 20 U.S. markets. Keyboard magazine placed
Seibold on its list of "Best New Talent" in '95 alongside
the likes of jazz pianist Jacky Terrason, Ace of Base
and Luscious Jackson's Vivian Trimble. Hate Dept. has
toured the U.S. four times already, while Seibold has
become both an in-demand producer (Berlin, Information Society)
and remixer (Smash Mouth's "Walkin' On The Sun (Love Attacks
Mix"), Pink Noise Test, Artificial Joy Club, Abra Moore).
