Artist History
After their first album THE BUDDHAFINGER went double platinum, 7 hit singles, 3 nationwide sell out tours and 149 gigs in the last year, Tadpole are back on the road.
After a productive year of songwriting and recording, the band have released "NOTHING NEW," the first single from their forthcoming second album.
The band headed back to record in the wilds of Auckland’s rugged West Coast. KareKare beach was where the group also recorded their first album and the band was happy to reunite with one of New Zealand’s top producers, Malcom Wellsford. Paddy Free of Pitch Black notoriety was added to the team.
Band members Dino, Renee, Paul and Chris haven’t slowed down since THE BUDDHAFINGER carved them a place in New Zealand music history. Their brash, bold approach to live performance and brilliant fusion of rock/pop/punk captured fans desperate for a change in the local music landscape.
Loud, tight and with a lot to say, this blasting quartet are committed to touring far and wide, big and small. From Whangarei to Invercargill, TADPOLE never forget the fans, and have spent an busy year playing on both sides of the Tasman. Highlights for the group include last year’s BIG DAY OUT, where they played to a frenzied crowd of over 40,000, and supporting ‘Killing Heidi’ in Australia.
The band are all influenced by various artists. These range from Renee’s like of old school Radiohead, Paul’s love of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Dino’s appreciation of Led Zepplin and Chris being a man of Metallica taste.
The new album promises to deliver the sounds that define TADPOLE, but with a new edge.
Renee (vocals) says "Everyone will recognise it as being us, but it’s a subtle departure from THE BUDDHAFINGER. There is a darker quality to this one, and although it’s got a rock energy, we have also tried a few experiments and headed in some new musical directions."
"TADPOLE have also become more focused on melody. This time around, the songs are much more personal to me,"
With no Svengali in sight, the group consider songwriting a collaborative procedure. The band have kept writing throughout their tours, and they believe strongly in the concept of road-testing a song. Up to half of the tracks on the new album have already been played to fans all across the country.
Having worked up 22 songs this year, the band have had to narrow the number down, and have decided that "NOTHING NEW" is the single to represent their new albums direction.
Renee is especially pleased with the single and considers it her favourite track. " It is cutting edge, cynical and a real step forward for us, everyone seemed to be firing on all cylinders and the song came together quickly."
So they’re back, bigger and better than before and are planning to take the country by storm. With a summer tour planned, including the BIG DAY OUT in January, TADPOLE are set for success again. With the album due out early next year, make sure you catch a TADPOLE show.
