Press Reviews
"A very professional and tight sound, with the lovely, rich accompaniment of Andrew Heath's guitar and tight, exhilarating harmonies of the two ladies, Penny Boys and Cathy Bell (ex Spot the Dog) whose fine fiddling and subtle accordian accompaniment added a rounding and a depth to their performance. Very polished! "The Folk Rag" It was a pleasure to have you on board for the tour and we received very positive feedback for The Poachers. Look forward to working with you again soon." Jon Nicholls Productions Pty Ltd (promotor of Fureys National Aust Tour) "Now, I reckon these guys are all set to become some sort of legendary Assassins of Folk, playing gigs here and there, then fading back into the shadows, only to appear and strike again. They don't play the usual places, so if by chance you get the opportunity to see them, do. For once during a support there were more people inside actually listening than propping up the bar. Refreshing." The Scene (from Altan review) "New local outfit The Poachers opened up the evening, and impressed with a very pleasant set of songs (including) the group's scrumptious original "Silvery Moon". Andrew Heath's guitar was polished - he surprised with a few minor and jazz chords tastefully inserted. Ex-Spot the Dog fiddler Cathy Bell provided imaginative improvising. Lead singer Penny Boys is a surprise talent." The Folk Rag (from Altan live review) |
