    Artist History
Colman's years as a musician began in the 1970s at Upper Canada College, playing in high school rock bands with names like VISION and S.K.L.A.R.B. (the Space Kinetic Library And Research Band). After graduating, he worked with schoolchum Reeves Miller, accompanying singers Gayle Manley and Mary-Jo Maur, also teaming up with Reeves' older brother Clark, forming a country rock trio called The Miller Brothers. Reeves and Colman also performed and recorded with rock band The Heat, winners of Toronto radio station Q107's 1980 Homegrown Contest, and later branched off on their own, forming top 40 duos Crossover and Twilight. But Colman's taste in more cerebral, progressive sounds led him to seek out more innovative outfits like the bands 241-2121 and NRG, performing live soundtracks to films, including Fritz Lang's 1926 classic Metropolis at various theatres in Toronto. Colman has also performed solo, appearing as Musician of the Month on the Rogers Cable TV weekly magazine show Metro Focus 90, and during a stay in England, he played a number cocktail piano gigs in London, including a regular engagement at the French House, one of London's famous Soho pubs. After a few years' hiatus, Colman's musical career witnessed a revival in 1992, when he joined a Toronto-based busking trio named Holy Smoke - featuring singer Gwyneth Baillie, who Colman later accompanied when she later branched out into a solo career. Colman has also performed with singers Marie-Lynn Hammond (formally of the 1970s folk group Stringband)and Gloria Shrieve, guitarist/composer Michael Keith, and most recently Toronto acid jazz/R&B/triphop/funk outfit The Roach Motel. Colman maintains his own home recording studio/office, where he is currently assembling a CD collection of music from over the last two decades, a small sampling of which he has performed at Toronto's Free Times Cafe and the Joseph D. Carrier and Circa 1506 art galleries.
