Artist History
monica s. kuebler began writing seriously in 1992. Her words didn't hit the stage until 4 years later in June of 1996. Her first spoken word show took place at the back of a biker bar in London, Ontario and intimidating as that must have been, she did not step down. That show quickly won her a reputation and many more invitations to perform followed. All her hard work came to a peak in 1997 when she was filmed for a cable special on the spoken word scene and had her first chapbook "Memories From Two Weeks of Silence... or a journey into chaos" released by London-based publisher HMS Press. In January of 1998, monica s. kuebler relocated to Toronto and proceeded to take a year off of the spoken word circuit to focus on developing new material. In 1999, she emerged from seclusion and re-invented herself on stage. Since then she has released her second chapbook "Legacy", a collection of short fiction. She has also been interviewed on Toronto radio stations CIUT and CHRY and in April of 2000 she had her first feature / headlining performance at Toronto's prestigious and popular 'BITE' monthly spoken word event. Future plans include taking her words on the road and releasing a third chapbook in 2001. monica s. kuebler is also currently working with some local musicians to add a dark musical / atmospheric element to her performances. |

"Fiction for the new millennium" - HMS Press (press release for 'Memories From Two Weeks of Silence... or a journey into chaos')"monica's stuff is really, really strong material... for someone so young it's very complex but very listenable and monica's quite a good performer, I noticed that right away also." - Nik Beat (poet / host of 'Howl' on CIUT radio) |
