Press Reviews From Manchester I received a nice package from John Siddique. He already contributes to the coil newsgroup where he attracted my attention. John and myself had already spoken on coil, black dog, and various records. In his ambitions the influences do not show much, his lyrics stand as their own star. In the little book the devils lunchbox one find ruminative material over the break-up of friendships, the force of the everyday, the tensions of social and sexual frustrations. Only the English language-has such turns for example: he will be relaxed/ by the waves washing/ the tiredness out of his bones (from piano drums and seawater). The poems are full of private wisdoms not usually exposed. They are a trip worth taking.The music on Compression is whole and not at all compressed. Long, extended electronic sounds with an experimental feel and pop-appeal together stretch as shining melodies on the disk. With undercurrents of spaciousness perhaps even an herby feel. Reading the book and hearing the CD together provides a really affectionate portrait of this man and his work.AUF ABWEGEN
