Artist History
InI Mighty Lock DownInI Mighty Lock Down – an extension of Eye Tree Society - was founded by emcees King Negus and Hasgod with the intentions of bringing the world hardcore Hip-Hop with a conscious vibe. Staying true to the four elements of Hip-Hop, (DJ, MC, graffiti, break dance) InI Mighty Lock Down has made a career of conveying a historical African presence in their music. The group’s history starts with InI, a Hip-Hop group signed to Elecktra under Pete Rock’s Soul Brother Records label. Mighty Lock Down was a separate independent group, which toured with INI as well as collaborated on several projects. When InI disbanded, the remaining members – DJ Boodakhan and Polo Dada – joined forces with Mighty Lock Down’s King Negus and Hasgod to create InI Mighty Lock Down.Prior to the merging of these two groups, Mighty Lock Down co-created the “Ghetto Survivalist” showcases – running from 1993 to 1995 – featuring Eye Tree Society artists’ “Yejide the Night Queen,” “Wyldeflowar,” as well as “Mighty Lock Down,” Backed by “Survival Soundz.” The response from the underground Hip-Hop community was so great that the newly formed InI Mighty Lock Down had no choice but to do another showcases series call “ save Hip-Hop Tour.” The metaphoric tour has blessed the stage of Thought Forms Underground for the past two years and will continue to propagate. In addition, the “Flare” showcase, a collaboration between M’ZAWA DANZ and InI Mighty Lock Down is another musical series that has received great responses every time it is performed. The multi-media showcase that encompasses art, music and dance has been performed at The Kitchen and New York Technical College. This year “Flare II African Articulations” was performed at the Kitchen to a once again sold out audience, and received an exceptional review from the New York Times newspaper.InI Mighty Lock Down have also performed at many New York venues such as The Nuyorican Poets Café, The Tunnel, Though Forms Underground, West End Gate, University of the Streets, Sarah Lawrence College, The Kitchen, NYU, S.O.B.’s, The Knitting Factory, NYC Technical College and Wetlands among others. InI Mighty Lock Down was featured as the only unsigned act in the College Music Journal (CMJ) Festival at S.O.B.’s, which also featured such artists as Goodie Mob, Black Eye Peas and Channel Live. They have also graced other events such as the Tea Party in Brooklyn, The Children’s Art Circus in Harlem, The New Rochelle High School Black Culture Convention, Saddam’s Boom Spot in North Carolina, The Next Generation Showcase in NYC and was a regular feature at the weekly Roots and Friends Jam Session in Philadelphia and NYC.In addition, the group – which produces their own music – has produced their first album called “The Keeper of the Flame” that is distributed through their own company called Trus Fund Entertainment Inc. InI Mighty Lock Down is also featured on the “Producshawn” compilation on Air Smooth Music (currently available).InI also currently have their cd available on MP3.com with two downloads for free. The group is working on their new material for a summer early fall release on their MP3 site and also at local underground friendly music locations. It seems like InI Mighty Lockdown has performed everywhere possible on the underground aboveground circuit.
