Artist description
This is never an easy question. Goldsmith Jones began in a garage over one year ago without a clear sound or direction apart from imitating the styles and volumes of our favorite indie-emo rock bands. In the beginning, school was a constant obligation as well as many other illegal substances, girl troubles and personality conflicts, but once we got our act together, recorded (and sold) a few decent demos and found that we were doing something interesting, we decided to move out of the garage for good. See you soon, GSJ. |

Artist History
Patrick and Jason wanted to start a band. They had been playing together around Champaign-Urbana for three years, while unsuccessfully auditioning new members to fill out their sound. One night Jason was introduced to Phil in a local bar by a mutual friend. Despite having similar musical tastes and directions, Phil was already playing with his high school friend, Dave, in another local band. After much convincing and one informal jam session, the two friends decided to severe their ties and form Goldsmith Jones with Jason and Patrick in February 2000. After a month of steady rehearsals, Goldsmith Jones officially debuted at Joe's Brewery, Champaign, Il, playing four original songs to an empty room of friends and drunks. The band's name and sound continued to grow with performances at random venues around town like the Red Herring; Channing-Murray Foundation (upstairs); the Courtyard Cafe, opening for The Beauty Shop and Red Hot Valentines; in addition to a steady schedule of well-attended house shows around town and Chicago. The band has also played popular local benefits, including the Ides of March benefit and an Illinois Disciple Foundation (IDF) benefit with Little Joe Gould and the Silent Treatment. Most recently, Goldsmith Jones contributed a song to the annual Channing-Murray CD due out in July. Currently, the band is scheduling a number of summer shows at larger venues around the midwest to promote their latest EP, "End of April." |
