Artist description
Joe Mercado, pencil pusher by day, club-goer by night becomes inspired by the distinct sound and ambiance of the NYC club scene. The year is 1988 and we're grooving to Break 4 Love (Raze), Work it to the Bone (LNR), and who could forget Todd Terry's Bango! He lives for the weekend, to be swept away by the moment. Soon, the weekends just aren't enough. "There must be some way to duplicate this sound", he ponders. "A way to keep this groove alive".He finds the way . It begins with the purchase of a few house records, shortly followed by turntables, a mixer and headphones. "Its just a hobby", he'd say , but as the beats became more engaging, and the blends more aqueous, so did the requests from friends and family for mix tapes, birthday parties, weddings and numerous mobile gigs. His thought becomes a mission, his dream a reality. |

Artist History
Early in the nineties DJ Dimension begins promoting his own dance parties ...Events held at various NYC clubs & bars, in turn would lead to numerous DJ appearances spinning at renowned clubs as Octagon, Tatou, Roxy, Carbon & The Limelight. The DJ sets spanned musical styles; Funk, Disco, Hip Hop & rare grooves. DJ Dimension- consistently sure that his brand of hard hitting, funky soulful, old school inspired style of House Music was represented on the turntables...By May of 1996 DJ Dimension had gained a significant amount of recognition. So much so that he was invited to guest DJ on 89.1 FM, WNYU's The Candy Store. DJ Dimension had set precedence; no one had ever been invited to guest DJ on The Candy Store prior! The taping received rave reviews...
By 1997 DJ Dimension, influenced by producers and friends Davey "Dex" Carter, Mood II Swing, Henry Maldonado and Big Will Rosario, now begins to set his sights on music production. His style though mostly house - DJ Dimension has now incorporated a fusion of trance, drum n' bass and funky breaks, creating a unique sound all his own. His early works can be found on the BML label. Soon DJ Dimension begins collaborations with William Rosario to form Mega Men Productions. Their distinct style was captured by the Strictly Rhythm label with their first project 'Hands Up' (What ?) under the pseudonym Ghetto Stylez and again as a remix duo on the single ' I Love You More', by King Street recording artist Kimara Lovelace . In 1999 DJ Dimension contributes to the launch of Sweatin' Records with it's debut release The Sweatin' All Stars EP.
For the new millennium DJ Dimension continues to blaze his own path; During the 2001 Winter Music Conference, DJ Dimension & William Rosario aka The Mega Men appeared at Club N (Brooklyn Nights Party, South Beach , Miami) showcasing a DJ set which featured masterful turntablism on 4 turntables and MC Big Ro hyping up the crowd; the event received praise from club owner Gerry Kelly as well as esteemed reviews from SpeedGarage.com . Other recent performances include Wax (Key West) and The Candy Store 89.1 FM as well as currently hosting & spinning the weekly webcast entitled The Ghetto Soul Sessions on DownShiftradio.com. Currently DJ Dimension set his sites on his first label imprint NDM Recordings, which will feature a new collection of artists and producers, reflecting on his vision of dance music culture.

Press Reviews
Ghetto Stylez - Hands Up (What) Strictly Rhythm Records; received a four stars in the November 1998 issue of DANCE MUSIC AUTHORITY magazine. This project also received esteemed reviews in the August 1998 issue of BLUES & SOUL magazine, 'HANDS UP' was charted at # 11 on the GLOBAL HOUSE Charts for the week ending 8-21-98....Indisputably funky tunes take on a Deep House feel through a traditional Garage formula. Lively, East Coast-inspired rhythms feature slick moves and hard, sweaty, hands-in-the-air effects. Irresistible ! Melissa P./LISTEN |
