Artist History
ZIA is an exclusively electronic band that began performing around the New England area in 1993. Founded by Elaine Walker, ZIA offers a rare blend of pro-space and sci-fi music played on futuristic instruments. In addition to putting on an entertaining sh ow, ZIA spreads a positive message about space exploration.Elaine, originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, writes the music, sings during the live show and plays a homemade "ZIA Drum" which she holds like a guitar. Liz Lysinger, from Detroit, and Matt Dallow, from Commack, Long Island, trigger melodic synth lines from Drum Kats & racks of MIDI triggers made from aluminum pipes and discarded circuit boards. Liz also plays keyboard lines and sings harmonies. Microtonal musical scales run rampant throughout th e ZIA repertoire. In the pop genre this is a monumental task, which adds an eerie and futuristic edge to the songs. Elaine and Liz hold degrees in Music Synthesis from Berklee College of Music. Liz also has a degree in Film Scoring. Elaine recently finished her Masters degree at NYU for Music Technology. Liz is the music editor for "Pokemon" TV series and "Yu-Gi-Oh!" TV series. Matt scored the music to the film, "Hack." In addition to ZIA's "Big Bang!" CD. Their CD/EP "Shem" was released in 1 996 and includes multimedia detailing a history of American space exploration and facts about the solar system. Developed by Elaine, it is an example of how ZIA supports and promotes space exploration and the new technology it creates. Elaine is a space activist, and is President of the NYC Chapter of the National Space Society http://www.ziaspace.com/nssnyc.For more info on ZIA, email them at zia@chaoscontrol.com and see http://www.ziaspace.com. e |

Press Reviews
ZIA NAMED BEST BAND TO BELONG ON MARS BY THE VILLAGE VOICE BEST OF NYC 2001 ISSUE
"Just the stage setup of the electronic pop trio ZIA makes it clear these brainy earth babes are coming from a galaxy far, far away. And now they've
got a boy, too: Geeky goth kid Matt Dallow recently joined "Blue Liz" Lysinger and founder Elaine Walker, who serves as president of the New York City Chapter of the National Space Society. Zia craft Hefty bags and duct tape into sexy stage wear, and use keyboards, pre-programmed drums, and various synthesized noises to jet-propel their songs about the big bang theory, supernovas, and being misunderstood for reading space zines. To trigger sounds, they hit rigged-up circuit boards or the buttons on some kind of homemade guitar . . . thing. When not appearing at an NYC nightclub, they wow crowds at science-fiction and space conventions around the country. zia@chaoscontrol.com -Lalena Fisher"
