The Rob Report by Robert Jansen 6/5/00The Rob report uses the "R" rating system. One "R" is worst. Five "R"'s is best. Lower case"r" is half of a point. Wendy May CD Review - "Matter of Perception"It took all of 10 seconds to like Wendy May. Backed by a steady professional band and a super-clean recording, Wendy May's sound has "radio" written all over it. Her look/image has "video" written all over it. It should be only a matter of time before we hear and see more of Wendy in the future. The CD kicks off with the rocking number "Roll Me Down That River". You can almost picture Wendy strutting her stuff as she belts out this catchy upbeat song. Crystal clear vocals, lush harmonies and a solid hook in the chorus make "Roll Me.." the standout song on the CD.Although the term is now cliché, the feel and groove of "Honky Tonk Stomp" could and should create it's own line dance. New Country hit makers Blackhawk come to mind when "Honky Tonk" fires up. Slide guitars sliding, pedal guitars pedaling and Wendy's solid vocals demanding attention as she directs the dancers with instructions for the "Honky Tonk Stomp". Do as she says or you'll have to "Turn around twice and stomp some more".After settling back into the reviewer chair, Wendy's shimmery vo cals piped up with "OneMore Bottle's Empty". An emotional trek full of silky harmonies using the tried and true empty bottle vs. lost love analogy. Although it's not the type of bottle Wendy had in mind, this could be classified as a 'lonely at the bar beer/whiskey drinkin' number'. Bordering on a crossover (Pop/New Country) song, "One More Bottle" would not be out of place on any New Country or Top 40 radio station. After several listens to the entire CD, the realization hits that artists such as Shania, The Dixie Chicks et al are not competition for Wendy, they are peers. Wendy's voice would not be out of place with this circle of stars. That said, Wendy's voice, although sweet and powerful at times, would be tough to pick out of the crowd. What does set her apart from the crowd is that Wendy is credited with writing most of the songs. If you haven't heard Wendy May, get on board now and watch for this rising star.As mentioned earlier, it should only be a matter of time before we see and hear more from We ndy May. She's got the look and she's got the voice. It was a privilege to review this excellent CD.Now if you'll excuse me, I have to see if I can find a way to stop tapping my feet.RRRRr (out of 5)Review: {"Wendy May's sweet, Southern sounding voice com es through these rootsy ditties like sunshine breaking through rain clouds. Not that her songs are cloudy, mind you. May's music leans heavy on the Country Rock while infusing blues undertones and plenty of boogie-woogie bits."}-[Eric Shea; Listen.com]Thi s Connecticut/New York based singer/song writer is known locally as she performs throughout the area with her band the Lost Dogs.Wendy's debut album "Matter of Perception" contains very versatile vocal & musical performances. With a wide range and powerfu l voice this is one artist that is truly unique. You will find the edgier "One More Bottle's Empty", and fun tunes, such as "It Don't Bother Me" & "Honky Tonk Stomp", and heartfelt songs such as "Picture Me" & "The Man In My Life". This musical collection reflects her varied musical background and includes other songs written by Michael White, who also performs on bass guitar and vocals.{"Matter of Perception" is pleasing to the ear and fun music."}-[P.M.-Recording Engineer]

    Artist History
The band is an upbeat, well rounded bunch of five! The guitar player, Paul Nelson formerly of Liege Lord, (Metal Blade Records), think Mettalica days, puts the rock edge in our contemporary pop/country. Chris Cioffi on keys is one hell of a dynamo as well as the harmonies he adds. There's our beloved drummer, John Glover who will try anything in the name of fun & groove, and on bass is Michael White who contributes his awsome five string talents along with vocals and pure writing skills. On rythm guitar is our newst Lost Dog, Gerry Giamo, he likes his new home! I'm the front guy, actually I'm the only female in my band. I play acoustic guitar and write."Matter of Perception" is my debut CD. Ï
