Artist description
Persone is a music trio from Sweden that plays music only in Esperanto. Until now, they have played in 11 lands: Sweden, Germany, Poland, Spain, France, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Russia, always with great success. Persone is well known for the quality and sonority of its texts, which makes it one of the best Esperanto bands. All songs are written by the band members. Persone's music has a style on its own but is a little bit in the tradition of the worldwide famous bands The Police and U2. Some calls their style "guitar pop". The acoustic repetory might make someone think of the duo Simon & Garfunkel. Although Persone consists of only three guys, some people say they sound like if they were more. Even the band members don't understand how this is possible. When making an acoustic concert without drums or electric guitars, the group shows a completely different face: beautiful harmonic singing, an atmospheric double bass and two acoustic guitars. |

Artist History
Persone was created in 1986 with Börje Lund (guitar, bass, voc), Bertil Wennergren (drums, voc), Martin Wiese (bass, guitar, voc), both ex-members of Amplifiki, and Per Ola Axelsson (sax, voc). Actually, Persone is a happy accident, because the band was supposed only to be for one concert in the first Cultural Esperanto Festival in Uppsala (Sweden) in May 1986. But the acclaim was so warm they decided to go on. That's how their first tape, "62 minutoj", came into being in 1987. Since then, Persone plays just about everywhere in Europe in Esperanto meetings, festivals, and congresses. In 1988 Benedikte Weinreich (synth) joined the band but only few months later, Per Ola left to join up with Amplifiki. One year later, Benedikte left, too, and late in 1989 it was Börje's turn, who left to live in the Netherlands, quitting music. But Persone had to go on and in 1990 Anders Grop (bass, voc) joined the band, which has since then been a trio, playing its original, well-rhythmed and energetic rock. In 1991 the bandproduced its second album "En la spegulo" (In the mirror). Martin composed the music and wrote the words in Esperanto. In 1994 the band was invited to play at the Esperanto Club Stockholm. The place didn't permit an electric rock concert, therefore Persone decided to make a little experiment, playing acoustically without drums but with two acoustic guitars and a double bass. This opened a new chapter in the history of Persone. From then the group has two faces: An electric rock and a more soft acoustic one. In 1996, Persone recorded its third album "Povus estis simple" (It could be simple), for the first time on CD. ("En la spegulo" has been republished on CD by now.) At the beginning of 1999, their fourth album "...sed estas ne" (...but it isn't) has been published on CD, making part of the "Collection 2000" of EUROKKA. |
