    Artist description
Carefully-crafted electronic music (acoustic instruments used too) with depth, unique character, humor, and inventive rhythms. David believes the "Cagean" philosophy that any sound can become musical, and or-if-is is made up of sound from all sources of life, human and not human, but it is not academic or demandingly intellectual. or-if-is is musical, accessible and memorable, but complex.

    Artist History
Dave L studied electro-acoustic composition, Balinese Gamelan and Indian rhythm at the California Institute of the Arts from 1990-93, and at the same time assisted film composer Michael Boddicker with his vast arsenal of modern and vintage electronic equipment while honing his electronic skills. He came to San Franciso in 1993 and shared an electronic studio with saxophonist/producer Paul Scriver of NeoMythic and Better Daze (Ubiquity Recordings). While in the Bay Area he has produced music and sound design for many companies such as LucasArts, LucasLearning, Macromedia and 3COM. Some of his interactive media sound design credits include The Phantom Menace, Jedi Knight, Droidworks, and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine . In 1999 he composed music, helped out with sound design and did the "film festival mixes" of ex-ILM-now-Orphanage filmmaker Stuart Maschwitz' latest film The Last Birthday Card. Two of the latest or-if-is tracks, "Astro Radio" and "Eye Spy" have been licensed for the soundtrack of GROOVE, a feature film set in one night in San Francisco Rave culture which premiered at Sundance and was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for distribution in theaters in Summer 2000. Mark Christiansen is working on a video for the "Eye Spy" track which will be entered into film festivals such as ResFest. Dave L is currently looking for a label to release an or-if-is album or license individual tracks for other purposes.
