    Artist History
Angelo Jensen, songwriter, lyricist poet, entertainer--born in San Gabriel, California, January 1 1963 was raised in Hawai'i since babyhood. Son of renown artist Rocky Ka'iouliokahihikolo'Ehu Jensen and writer Lucia Tarallo-Jensen--nephew of celebrated entertainer Dick Jensen. He started his musical career at the age of 14 as a bass player, organizing his own band,LIQUID FIRE. At 16 cut his teeth on the outdoor concert circuit throughout the island state; his first public appearance being at Haleiwa's Northshore Jam with a companion band called FRENZY. Graduating from playng bass in the well recognized rock n' roll group KAOS, at the age of 18 Angelo and guitarist Brian Spalding formed the legendary AARONSROD, enjoying premier status as Hawai'i's most popular and successful rock band. Shortly after Gerard Gonsalves, a native son from Kailua O'ahu, having had a successful run with the band STAJE FRITE, joined as AARONSROD's new drummer. Steady engagements at local clubs such as the ROCK N' ROLL CLINIC (later known as Waikiki Junction),FAST EDDIES, THE WAVE, JAZZ CELLAR, and the 23rd STEP, culminated in opening for such mega grops as RATT in 1985 and JUDAS PRIEST in 1986, with private performances for DIO, RUSH and countless others. That same year AARONSROD, through island producer Rick Asher Keefer and Sea West Productions, secured a recording contract with RoadRunner Records a subsidiary of CBS Records. Their first album ILLUSIONS KILL, received critical acclaim throughout Europe and Japan, the original composition DO ME IN was number five in Tokyo and Germany, remaining on the charts for well over a year; power ballad DECEIVING EYES, a solid number one hit in Italy, garnering Angelo top male vocalist and "best front man" as well. After recording their second album, HARD BALL, the group moved to Los Angeles, where they engaged in a promotional tour of the West Coast. For personal reasons, Gerard returned to Hawai'i and later joined the band CALAMITY JAYNE, going on to personal success in the Honolulu arena. During AARONSROD's six years in Hollywood, they were top headliners at such internationally known clubs as GAZZARI'S, WHISKEY-A-GO-GO, THE ROXY, TROUBADOR, JEZEBELS, FM STATION, and Chuck Landis' COUNTRY CLUB, while CALAMITY JAYNE opened for OZZY OSBOURNE in 1993, and garnered the distinction of being the last rock n' roll band to headline in Waikiki's infamous JAZZ CELLAR. Rock n' roll giving way to "grunge", AARONSROD disbanded,Angelo returning to Hawai'i in 1993 to compose and record a new project with a sound more condusive to his strong melodic style. Raised under the Hawaiian tutorship of his artist father, he was taught how to draw and paint, exibiting his first works in HALE NAUA III group shows at the age of 15, but more importantly, he had been imbued with the Hawaiian spirit that finally came back to haunt his musical and poetic creativity. Sensing a major shift in the local music scene, he decided to create from those lessons learned as a child. In 1997 NATIVE TONGUE with gutarist Bruce Lum Ho, released their CD single and in 1998, Angelo was nominated, and won the Hawaii Music Awards Contemporary Vocalist of the Year for his original composition E KU HAWAI'I! Under the moniker NATIVE TONGUE, Angelo Jensen and Gerard Gonsalves teamed up once more. Gerard displaying a rare and masterful talent in the use of guitars--something that had gone unnoticed by his other band members in his previous years as a premier rock n' roll drummer. For two years they wrote songs dealing with Hawaiian themes and issues, esoteric beliefs, love and commemoratives-- all island oriented. They recorded their new material with an exotic, lush sound that has quickly become their trademark. They are a true and harmonious blend of two divergent styles: Angelo's lyrics steeped in KAONA,"grand metaphorical illusions," balanced with his sweeping sense of melody and Gerard's commanding instrumental prowess displaying a combination of old and new, the CD interspersed with his sensitive, romantic sound. Getting the attention of GORDON BROAD, CEO of Moonsurfer Records, NATIVE TONGUE brought their unique sound to reality. In the interim they continue to headline in local clubs throughout the state while preparing for the release of their premier debut CD during the Christmas season and the compilation of their second album. Native Tongues' Bio was written and compiled with "aloha " by Lucia Tarallo Jensen.
