Artist History
Black Mollies formed in early 1999. In January 2000, the band released a 7" single on Moodswing Records, and a full-length recording is planned for later in the year. Black Mollies began performing live during the summer of 1999. The Mollies have played shows with the following national touring bands: The Cutthroats 9 (San Francisco), Verbena (Birmingham, AL), Enemymine (Olympia, WA), Rye Coalition (Jersey City, NJ), Damad (Savannah, GA), and Arab on Radar (Providence, RI). Black Mollies can be heard regularly on Atlanta's WRAS 88.5, the largest all student-run college radio station in the U.S., in addition to other college stations across the country. |

Press Reviews
" 'Kirkwood,' exclaims a violent answering machine voice. The story seems urgent. Vocal lines yell out familiar Cabbagetown street names... The voice is like that of some fallen teenager from a pulp junky novel looking for the all-important medication. Such are the musical paintings on a canvas placed a little left of center from most Atlanta bands. Standing nearly alone under the gone-but-not-forgotten marquee of noise rock is Atlanta's Black Mollies. The Mollies look to the post-punk guitar noise of bands like the Jesus Lizard, Unsane, and even vintage Nirvana as influences. Their bi-polar sound is an inviting detour to those looking for the back alley of the Atlanta music scene." Hatcher, CREATIVE LOAFING (Atlanta), Aug. 12, 2000. "The band performed a powerful set. Drawing upon influences ranging from The Jesus Lizard, God Head Silo and Bleach-era Nirvana, the Black Mollies combined heavy bass and frenzied drumming with screaming vocals to solidify its dark cacophony." Chad Radford, THE SCENE (Atlanta), July 15, 2000 "Sludgy groove rock with both spoken and screamed vocals. There's fuzz bass at times on both songs, and someone plays bells. Reminds me of Nirvana a bit. I kind of like it." Brian Manning, PUNK PLANET, May/June 2000 "Moodswing Records has released a 7" from lead-heavy Atlanta band Black Mollies. It rocks like the statement it is." Jeff Clark, STOMP AND STAMMER, Feb. 2000 "...the Mollies are going to do their best to tear [the stage] down." M. Foy, CREATIVE LOAFING (Atlanta), Dec. 25, 1999 |
