Artist History Left Behind is a song created in 1987 by an award recipient, combat disabled veteran with two tours. The song was brought into existence because of the situation of the MIA/POWs. I wondered over the years how I could make a statement to alleviate the situation in Vietnam for the POW/MIAs. It seems as though there were a lot of speeches going on and nobody was listening, and as we all know, unless the speech is something that is truly different from the norm, no one really pay attention. So I thought to myself that what I would like to do, maybe, if I could make a difference, I would try to do it in the form of a poem or a song. I took pen in hand and sat down and wrote the lyrics to Left Behind. We know the music of the times embraces the culture which has evolved through the shifting social and political changes and with that in mind this song, Left Behind, was born. I would like to perform the song at the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C.I have received a letter from former Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Krulak, regarding the song. I also have an award from the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition for 1999. I have also been recognized by Billboard Magazine for other accomplishments. It has already been performed at different locations for several different functions and with great response. But the total goal and purpose of this song is that all of America may listen and understand and ask the question, “What about those we Left Behind?” And with that in mind, unite and speak with one voice, what about those we Left Behind. You see, it could have been you or me, then where would we be?
