Artist History
2nd Set formed in the winter of 1999 through the initial collaboration of bassist Tim Kingsbury and singer/guitarist Joe Gorman. At the time, the two sought to start a project that would bring together a few open-minded, dedicated musicians in an effort to create original, exciting music. Tim then asked Edward Scott to join in on the project knowing that his fresh approach to singing/songwriting and the guitar would blend perfectly. The threesome started playing coffee shops and house parties around San Francisco as an acoustic trio but mainly focused on writing and arranging songs while searching for a drummer that would be a perfect fit. Soon after, drummer Mario Santana arrived back in San Francisco and completed the lineup. His enthusiasm and Latin-inspired drumming added yet another dimension to the band’s developing sound. The now complete foursome performed their first gig in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, at the 1999 “Bay to Breakers” race under the name “Spin Cycle.”The crucial next step in 2nd Set’s progress occurred when producer/engineer Chris Manning agreed to produce their demo. Bringing experience and wisdom gained from the many impressive sessions he’s worked on (Santana, Guster, Metallica and N.W.A. to name a few), Chris guided the band through the recording process, while also helping fine tune their overall sound. With the completion of their demo in early 2000, the newly renamed 2nd Set returned their focus to the stage, playing regularly to packed houses at some of the Bay Area’s best live music clubs, including Broadway Studios, The Red Devil Lounge, 19 Broadway and The Hotel Utah.Fueled by high-energy performances and word-of-mouth, 2nd Set’s loyal and ever-growing following continues to lend their support, making this one-time acoustic ‘project’ an up and coming creative force on the stage and in the studio. |
